NATO can't protect Europe from Russia because the US has defected. The EU can't because UK is no longer a member. The UN can't because of Russia & US. We need a body with Europe + UK but not Russia + US, with existing admin infrastructure. What I'm saying is: arm the Eurovision Song Contest.

NextCloud sounds like it would solve some of my problems but then I'm a little too paranoid so I would only host stuff I don't want to host on the open internet, which in turns makes it mostly useless to me.
It would appear that the fediverse comprises people who are some or all of:
Cat people
Cat6 people
Cat ears people

Sometimes you've been doing things a certain way for literal decades and all it takes an offhand comment to change your thinking.
In this case it's not even so spectacularly novel, just (I think even 2 separate) people stating they'd want to run their own mail server just for receiving important (e.g. 2FA) mails, not for sending or normal conversation. This was in the context of #ryoms - so everything else aside, just getting into discussions about some piece of tech (a type/role, not a specific software) can be useful.
